Church Luncheon . . . June 7th
Church Business Meeting . . . June 14th

A Special Note:
Our coffee house brunch has been revamped and is now a luncheon instead of breakfast. We will have a shortened version of our normal Sunday morning service on the first Sunday of every month, immediately followed by the luncheon. Since this function often lasts into the afternoon, we will no longer be having the Sunday evening service on that specific first Sunday of the month.

An End Of May Reminder:
Don’t forget the hot dog sale and car wash at Auto Zone in St. Albans on Saturday, May 30th from 10:00am to 3:00pm. The proceeds will go toward helping us purchase new carpet for the church that is much needed.

In Honor Of Our Fathers On This Father’s Day, June 21st
Proverbs 23:22 Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. (NIV)
Proverbs 23:24 The father of a righteous man has great joy; he who has a wise son delights in him. (NIV)
Deuteronomy 5:16 Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

Church NewsLetter – May 2009

Church Announcements
Our Easter egg sale helped us to take a giant step forward to purchasing new carpet for the sanctuary. We still have about half way to go and are well on our way.

The plans for the Summer Song Christian Music Festival scheduled for June 20th, 11:00am – 6:00pm to kick off this summer are coming along great. Everything has been seamlessly falling into place as God is unmistakably the executive producer. Anyone wanting to volunteer their time on that day or to sponsor the event in any way, please contact Lana Myers at 304-562-2002.

For anyone who hasn’t noticed, the work on the children’s church is looking pretty spiffy these days. We are all anxious to see how it will look when everything is completed, inside and out.

A reminder of our regular Coffee House Brunch on the first Sunday of the month.

A Spring Paryer
For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;
For song of bird, and hum of bee;
For all things fair we hear or see,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

For blue of stream and blue of sky;
For pleasant shade of branches high;
For fragrant air and cooling breeze;
For beauty of the blooming trees,
Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

In Honor Of All Our Mothers On This Mother’s Day
John 19:26-27 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, Woman, behold, your son! Then he said to the disciple, Behold, your mother! And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home.
Deuteronomy 5:16 Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may go well with you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.

Special Mention
We would like to wish a special “Happy Birthday” to the pastor’s wife, Michelle as well as a special “Happy Anniversary” to our head deacon, Jimmie and his wife Carol.

We are planning our first annual Summer Song Christian Music Festival for June 20th of this Summer. It will be primarily geared toward the youth but include activities for all ages. Our goal is to set a Christian tone for the Summer in the minds of our youth and show them that they can have fun and truly enjoy, all the while, making the conscious choice to live a Christian life. Hence the reason for keeping attractions and activities all free. Anyone who knows of singers or bands that sing the softer or pop type Christian rock music similar to that played on KLOVE 93.3 FM, please let us know. We are looking for groups or singers for the day. We will also be providing space for crafters to set up and sell their crafts, candles, etc so spread the word if you should know anyone who would be interested. There will not be a fee for crafters to set up however, monetary donations of any amount are always appreciated. We will also need volunteers to help in the kitchen, outside with the events, parking, etc. and we need someone who can do face painting. For more info, to make suggestions or to lend a hand.

There will be a cookout and Easter Egg hunt on Saturday, April 11th at noon at Jimmie & Carol’s home.

Why do we celebrate Easter? Because of the Resurrection.
Matthew 28:1-10 (New International Version)
1:After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.
2:There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
3:His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow.
4:The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.
5:The angel said to the women, Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
6:He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.
7:Then go quickly and tell his disciples: He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him. Now I have told you.
8:So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples.
9:Suddenly Jesus met them. Greetings, he said. They came to him, clasped his feet and worshiped him.
10:Then Jesus said to them, Do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.

Morning Prayer
Dear Lord,

I ask that you have your will be done in this day and that you walk with me on this day

That you have me see the things you would have me see

Have me hear the things you would have me hear

Have me speak the words you would have me speak

Have me feel the things you would have me feel

Have me understand the things you would have me understand

Have me know the things you would have me know

. . . and have me respond to those I love in the way you would respond to me.

In Jesus’ holy and precious name ~ Amen

Church NewsLetter – February 2009

Church Announcements
For anyone interested, we will be making Easter eggs and selling them to raise fund money for the church. As of current discussions, we are considering making both peanut butter and coconut eggs and they will be in what we understand to be one pound and one and a half pound sizes. As more decisive plans are made we will keep you informed. Any one interested in helping make and/or sell the eggs or donating supplies, just get in touch with the pastor’s wife, Michelle via the contact numbers on the back page of this newsletter.

A Winter Prayer
Dear Lord,

Just help me keep my life
As pure and white as snow
That on a clear and cold winter day
Brings beauty here below

Just let me seek the light
Your Warmth, Your Love, Your Grace
As here below we seek the warmth
Of a winter fireplace

Just help me strive to do
The things You need of me
I Thank You Lord, for in this way
My Soul, like the snowflake, is Free

E.H. Coe 1980

Thank You
While saying a sincere “Welcome Home”‘ to each and every new member to our congregation and to all those who are returning, we wish to say . . .

“Thank You Dear Lord, for every miracle you have bestowed upon us. For every blessing that you have so selflessly granted us. For the blessings that are vivid and clear to all those who witness and for every blessing that is not seen or heard, that we are not made aware. Thank you for every soul that you bring to us, that you allow us to love. Thank you for the life that has filled our church, your house, and thank you for each and every gift so generously given, for we know that without you, we would not be.”

We have so many new comers to the church or in some cases, past members attending again, that an update for our list of birthdays, anniversaries, addresses and phone numbers is much needed. We will be passing the form around the congregation in the coming weeks, so look for that and please get with us if not.

Church NewsLetter – January 2009

Church Announcements
The Christmas food baskets were again, over flowing and that is thanks to the generosity of those who attend and contribute to our church. Again, we have been blessed to help two families with the baskets and are grateful that we could do so.

Just an FYI . . . I am sure that we will be getting back into our regular routines with the holidays behind us so be ready for the regular monthly meetings and coffee house brunches.

A New Year’s Prayer
Dear Lord for this coming year
Just one request I bring
I do not pray for happiness
Or any earthly thing
I do not ask to understand
The way Thou leadest me
But this I ask – Teach me to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee

I want to know Thy guiding voice
To walk with Thee each day.
Dear Lord make me swift to hear
And ready to obey.
And thus the year I now begin
A happy year will be
If I am seeking just to do
The thing that pleaseth Thee.

Our News Years Lock In for the youth was a big hit. Even the adults had a ball watching the kids play the games and hey, getting pranked isn’t always a big hoot but pranking someone else, now that’s where it’s at guys. Combine that with the pizza and other eats and it was nothing to be had but a great time. See the pictures in the entry way on the bulletin board.

Our youth are also beginning fundraisers for a summer trip to Kings Island so any suggestions and help are as always – very welcomed.

Church NewsLetter – December 2008

Church Announcements
You may be interested to know that the October Fest proceeds combined with a private donation was enough to purchased our much needed sound system.

A prayer tree will be placed in the church throughout the month of December for anyone wanting to add a prayer.

Don’t forget to bring in your non-perishable food items for the Christmas food basket that we’ll be putting together and donating two weeks before Christmas.

We will also be adopting a family for Christmas to provide needed gifts for the children. Anyone wanting to donate toys or children’s clothes, please see any of the ladies of the church for details regarding what sizes, boy or girl, etc.

A Christmas Prayer
I said a Christmas prayer for you
Because the season’s near
I didn’t ask for riches
But for gifts so much more dear.

I asked for joyful gatherings
With your family all around
And for carols to inspire you
With their old familiar sound.

I asked for quiet moments
In your heart on Christmas morn
For a special time to celebrate
The Savior who was born.

I asked for friends to send their best
That you might know they care
I asked for peace and love and hope
And I know God heard my prayer.

Upcoming Church Events
We have the Tried By Fire New Year’s Eve Youth Lock In scheduled for December 31st at 8:00pm through January 1st. at 8:00am. All are welcome so come join us as it promises to be a fun filled night with games, karaoke, food and more. Make sure to come prepared with a pillow, sleeping bag and any personal night time necessities just in case.

We also ask that if you have an old coat that is still in good working shape and would like to donate it to the needy, bring it along. We will be donating all coats to United Way or any of the local coat drives in the St. Albans, West Virginia area where the coats will be given free to those in need.

November 08 NewsLetter

Church NewsLetter – November 2008

Church Announcements
Our day at the Buffalo October Fest was both enjoyable and profitable as it allowed us to put forth a substantial amount of money toward the church’s sound system. It also gave us time to visit with one another, allow the kids to have some fun and we were also very blessed to run into a few very old friends whom we had not seen in many years. It was a long day and it was a tiring day but it was a very good day, and most of all, it was a blessed day.

The new website is complete and can be found at www.brownschapel.net. If anyone has any thoughts for improvement on the site or would like to make a suggestion, please let us know.

Just a reminder . . . The Thanks Giving Holiday falls on Thursday, November 27th this year.

Upcoming Church Events
To welcome Pastor Shelby and his family and to celebrate the upcoming holiday season, there will be a church dinner on Sunday, November 16th immediately following the morning services. Everyone is invited to share this time with us. All covered dishes and desserts will be welcomed but your presence will be more welcomed.

We are also scheduling a monthly brunch in the Holy Grounds Coffee House that is a gathering every first Sunday of the month in lieu of the morning worship service. This allows us to spend leisure time with our church family and catch up on the little everyday just as important stuff with one another.

We are beginning to see tokens in the Billy Bob’s bank guys. Keep up the great work kids. We enjoy hearing those Bible verses on Sunday mornings and we also enjoy seeing the new faces every week. We are hoping to make the Billy Bob’s trip in mid January, just after the first of the year and when it is too cold to be outdoor for long.

GAMES! PIZZA! POP! FUN!
We began a “Billy Bob’s Token Bank” the last week in September. The goal is that for every member who memorizes their bible verse each week, that member gets a token added to the bank for our Billy Bob’s trip in Barboursville, West Virginia that will be scheduled some time this winter. We will let you know the exact date as soon as it is scheduled. For the little ones who cannot memorize the verses yet or for anyone new on their first visit to the church will get a free token added to the bank that day. This means that the more kids who come to Sunday school and the more kids who learn their Bible verses, the more tokens we have to play games with at Billy Bob’s. Look forward to more fun and interesting stuff on the way and if you have an idea, don’t be afraid to speak up. Oh, kids and don’t forget to bring a friend to church next time. That gives us another token you know?
